The University of Iowa is hosting a two-week, paid summer camp/mini-internship focused on advancing undergraduate students' knowledge in weather prediction, local weather intelligence assessment, and resilience in agricultural communities. This immersive program, funded by the National Science Foundation's EPSCoR program (award #2420405), will provide hands-on training and exposure to cutting-edge technologies to 40 students.
Camp highlights
Participants will:
- Understand climate science and community resilience.
- Explore emerging technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud and high-performance computing applications.
- Engage in interactive workshops, group projects, and professional development activities.
- Work on a group project culminating in an end-to-end application aligned with students' academic and career interests.
- Gain KANI DARE Camp Participation Certificate.
Program details
What: Workshops and hands-on training in emerging technologies, professional development sessions, networking opportunities, and group projects
When:
- Onsite dates: June 2–13, 2025 (Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.)
- Virtual dates: Pre-workshop training (one week before camp) and post-camp follow-ups (one week after camp)
Where: The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA
Cost: Free! Includes housing and a stipend of $100 per day.

Eligibility
Open to undergraduate students currently enrolled in public or private universities or community colleges in Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Iowa (KANI states).
